WESTCHESTER, ILL., Jun 17, 2021 – Follett, the largest campus retailer in North America, today announced a new partnership with Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. Under Follett’s leadership, the innovative academic retail experience at Texas Tech will bring a renewed energy to campus while focusing on integrations that improve academic support for students and faculty.
Prior to Follett, the campus store at Texas Tech was operated by a competing retailer.
“Texas Tech is excited about the new partnership with Follett. The technology integration with existing Texas Tech platforms will bring a new academic course material experience to our faculty and students. Follett brings a culture of customer service and collaboration to this partnership that will result in an improved experience for faculty, staff, students, and visitors,” says Jennifer Adling, Chief Procurement Officer, Texas Tech University.
As higher education’s most trusted partner for more than 140 years, Follett will bring exceptional service to the Texas Tech campus community. The company currently operates more than 1,100 campus locations throughout North America, serving approximately six million students. Texas Tech joins several institutions throughout Texas and the Southwest - including Texas Christian University, Rice University, University of Houston, Texas State University, and New Mexico State University - that have joined the acclaimed Follett network over the past three years.
“Our partnership with Texas Tech is being founded on a common mission – to improve the higher education experience through dedicated student and faculty support,” says Alan Stratman, vice president of marketing at Follett. “We’re honored to support that mission at Texas Tech by delivering an engaging retail experience and course material programs with proven impacts on academic outcomes.”
With Follett, Texas Tech students and faculty will experience campus retail in a new light, thanks to the company’s focus on using integrated technologies to streamline the course materials process. Follett’s $65 million investment in its academic tools, like Follett DiscoverTM, is helping to redefine the way course materials are adopted, acquired, and accessed. Through this platform, faculty at Texas Tech will enjoy access to more than 6,000 publisher partners and the freedom to choose materials – including course materials, eBooks, supplies, open educational resources, and even their own content – that best fit the curriculum. Likewise, students can conveniently view required materials, easily purchase or rent materials, and seamlessly access digital materials.
“The course materials business is continuously shifting and evolving, and our campus partners know they can count on us for the solutions that will alleviate costs for students and burdens for faculty,” explained Jennifer Hatton, Follett’s executive vice president for retail operations and course materials solutions. “With our integration capabilities and industry expertise, Texas Tech students and faculty will experience a new level of academic support and a seamless course materials journey.”
Continually keeping course materials affordability top of mind has allowed Follett to demonstrate great success around student savings. During the 2020-2021 academic year, students across Follett’s network saved more than $113 million and $127 million through Follett’s text rental program and digital options, respectively.
Plans for a campus store renovation are underway as well, with a focus on creating a retail environment that captures the spirit of the Texas Tech community and celebrates Red Raider pride. The updated retail experience will become a must-see destination on campus, offering new assortments of technology and fan gear as well as an updated Starbucks Café, making the store a hub for campus gatherings, game day and other special events.
Follett’s ecommerce platform – ranked #57 on Digital Commerce 360’s 2021 Top 1000 list – will ensure that the Texas Tech community enjoys anytime, anywhere access to the products they need to learn and celebrate.
President of Follett Higher Education Roe McFarlane, who has championed the company’s multi-year $50 million ecommerce transformation, says that Follett’s campus retail network and ecommerce platform are key to delivering a complete, innovative retail experience.
“Our websites are natural extensions of our physical stores, designed with today’s shopper in mind and supported by leading-edge technology,” says McFarlane. “As part of our network, the Texas Tech community will be treated to an upgraded ecommerce experience that captures campus spirit and caters to the online shopping preferences we have all come to expect from world-class retailers.”
Students, faculty, campus partners, and fans everywhere can check out the new campus store site, texastechstore.com beginning June 17, 2021.
Follett looks forward to serving the Texas Tech campus community in-store and online beginning this summer. Welcome to the Follett family of campus stores.
