Follett and Vance-Granville Community College Team Up to Deliver Access, Affordability through New Campus Retail Partnership

WESTCHESTER, ILL., May 3, 2021 – Follett, the largest campus retailer in North America, announced a new partnership with Vance-Granville Community College (VGCC) in Henderson, NC.  The partnership went into effect March 17, 2021.

The new campus store and upgraded ecommerce experience will support the five campuses that comprise VGCC.

Their expertise, proven systems, and purchasing power mean greater benefit to VGCC students - enabling the College to concentrate on core mission and student support. As a part of Follett’s acclaimed campus retail network, which currently serves six million students on more than 1,100 campuses, VGCC students, faculty and staff will have access to the company’s unparalleled assortment of collegiate products and services, as well as Follett’s robust inventory of low-cost course material options. Students can look forward to saving 25% with used textbooks and up to 80% with Follett’s ground-breaking text rental program (compared to purchasing new books).  

Follett has saved students more than $113 million through its text rental program this academic year alone.  A leader in higher education’s digital transformation, Follett saved students another $127 million this year through digital options - either eBook purchases or digital courseware.

Jennifer Hatton, Follett’s executive vice president for retail operations and course materials solutions, recognizes Follett’s responsibility as VGCC’s campus partner in driving success for students throughout their community college experience. 

“Follett understands community college students like no one else in our industry, and we know that cost can often be a barrier for success.   Our partnership with VGCC will help alleviate the cost burden associated with course materials, so students can focus on what they came to VGCC to do - take their education or career to the next level,” Hatton explained.

Follett’s integrated Financial Aid program exemplifies its commitment to access and affordability, as VGCC students will be able to use their available funds to acquire approved course materials and supplies through the campus store.   In addition, Follett is supporting faculty choice and student access by delivering more course material options from 6,000 publisher partners through integrated academic tools, like Follett DiscoverTM.

VGCC can expect a brand-new retail experience from Follett, as plans for a campus store renovation are underway.  The updated store will feature several new displays of Follett’s vast assortment of general merchandise.

Just as these changes to the physical store will generate even more campus and community pride, so will the upgraded ecommerce experience.  Thanks to Follett’s multi-year, $50 million investment to its platform, the new and improved campus retail website will ensure VGCC students, faculty, and staff get all the materials and gear they need – anytime, anyplace.   Follett’s ecommerce platform was ranked #81 on the Internet Retailer 500 in 2020.
