WESTCHESTER, IL, Mar 20, 2019 – Follett Higher Education is celebrating 50 years of partnership with the University of Scranton Bookstore, a significant milestone in Follett’s 146-year history. Established in 1969, the store was originally located in the university’s Gunster Memorial Student Center but later moved to the Patrick & Margaret DeNaples Center.
“It has been an incredible 50 years of partnership,” said Clay Wahl, President of Follett Higher Education Group. “We are proud to have served thousands upon thousands of students over the years. We are committed to supporting the academic mission and campus life of the University of Scranton and look forward to our continued partnership for many years to come.”
To commemorate the milestone, a special luncheon was held at the DeNaples Center, where an engraved statue of St. Ignatius was presented to Scranton leadership to honor the half-century partnership. Invited guests included Clay Wahl, President of Follett Higher Education Group, Wayne Beach, Regional Manager of Sales and Operations for Follett, Don Drasba, Store Manager, Robert Davis, Vice President of Student Life, Edward Steinmetz, Vice President for Finance/Treasurer, along with other university leadership.
Follett has been an important contributor to Scranton’s local economy, bringing jobs, business and investments to the institution. In 2009, Follett contributed $1.6 million to the University of Scranton’s capital campaign in support of the institution’s endowment, annual resources and transformational capital improvement projects that included the DeNaples Center.
In addition to serving as a trusted and valued partner for five decades, the Scranton campus store has served as a talent pipeline for Follett management. Dozens of team members have gone on to serve as managers of stores at several other local colleges, such as Marywood University and Luzerne County Community College.
