Follett’s New Destiny Release Offers Array of Enhancements

MCHENRY, ILL., Sep 5, 2018 – Timed to support educators for the new school year, Follett has released Destiny 16.0, a new version of the market-leading solution featuring significant enhancements to Destiny Library Manager, Destiny Discover, Destiny Resource Manager, and Destiny Analytics. Destiny solutions are used in more than 60 percent of U.S. public schools.

Destiny 16.0 highlights include:

  • A new reader functionality in Destiny Library Manager provides for a simplified reading experience and improved support for offline reading. Key highlights include offline access on Chromebooks and support for exporting eBook notes to Google Drive or Microsoft One Drive documents.

“We will continue to build on these improvements to support Community Share – cooperative programs across public libraries and school districts to leverage access to eBooks and audiobooks to students,” said Don Rokusek, program director/library solutions, Follett School Solutions.

  • Destiny Discover has been updated to support web accessibility guidelines in the United States and Canada for the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), respectively.
  • For Destiny Library Manager and Destiny Discover, Follett has updated the Lexile Reading Program Service to ensure that a user’s collection only shows the current Lexile measure for any title.

“With the 16.0 upgrade, our elementary students will experience a Destiny Discover landing page that is even brighter, more colorful and more intuitive,” said Kate MacMillan, coordinator library services, Napa Valley (Calif.) Unified School District, which has been a Follett customer for more than 20 years. “In addition, the 16.0 upgrade has given us more flexibility to update, curate and share Collections by Destiny more easily. Follett has always been customer driven and technologically nimble; the annual upgrades to existing products are a testament to its excellence.”

In last year’s Destiny 15.0 release, Follett introduced Collections by Destiny, a new educational tool that helps librarians, teachers, and curriculum staff to create collaborative ways to share resources across the district, schools or between users. In just its first year, Collections has been hugely popular among students, teachers, and librarians alike.

Other Destiny 16.0 improvements include:

  • For all products, patron photos can now be imported at the district level in addition to just the site level – one of several new capabilities aimed at making Destiny easier to manage for larger school districts.
  • For Destiny Resource Manager users, it is now even simpler to track the value of lost items or those needing replacement, while new reports can be generated to better help an individual school’s purchasing needs. Moreover, the solution will help administrators more easily determine resource shortages and surpluses at each school within a district.

A “What’s Coming in Destiny 16.0” webinar is set for 3 p.m. EDT on Tuesday, Sept. 18. To register, visit www.follettcommunity.com/webinar/destiny16-0. Registrants can either view the webinar live or later at their convenience.
