Envision a lively, welcoming space that captures the essence and pride of your campus—a place where students, faculty, and alumni can come together to celebrate their school’s unique culture. The recent renovation of Indiana University South Bend’s campus store, now known as Hammes Bookstore @ IU South Bend, has successfully created an environment that embodies the school’s spirit and history. Join us on a visual journey showcasing the impressive transformation of this space into a lively hub for the IU South Bend community.

Before and After: A Transformation in Pictures

While the location for the new store was central, convenient, and had a lot of potential, the features were a bit dated.

The original space previously functioned as an office and a daycare before it was repurposed into the campus store.
Before the renovation, this part of campus did not feel as inviting and full of campus spirit as the rest of IU South Bend.

The original layout was fragmented, offering no sense of community or connection to the campus. The renovated space, unveiled during the grand opening, fosters an inviting atmosphere for students, faculty, and staff.

Steven Turnbull, the store manager, noted that “the store has already seen increased foot traffic and sales as it has become a more integral part of the orientation experience, improving students’ first impression of the campus.”

The previous entryway lacked character and branding. Now, the store’s logo is proudly displayed above the doorway, welcoming everyone to the heart of campus.

The celebratory ribbon-cutting ceremony unveiled a reimagined bookstore that caters to the needs of the students, faculty, and staff. This provides a visually appealing and functional space that enhances the overall campus experience.

A New Chapter: Highlights from the Renovation

The store now offers a wide range of merchandise, from apparel to accessories, capturing the essence of IU South Bend.

Visitors can easily find branded shirts and other items that represent their school pride.

Every corner of the store is thoughtfully designed to highlight the history and pride of the school.

Justin Stecz, the regional manager of the store, added, “Previously, the bookstore was located in the middle of an academic building. The new location puts us right in the heart of campus—surrounded by key administrative offices, the bustling student center, and a popular café.”

The space now provides the perfect setting for gatherings, with a backdrop of branded t-shirts and hoodies that students and alumni will love.

Follett’s partnership with Indiana University South Bend has transformed the campus store into an inviting, vibrant space that reflects the school’s unique character and history. The design was tailored to reflect the school’s unique identity and create a space that fosters a sense of community among students and visitors.
